A spelling correction of an essay writtne by Danish student from 9th grade.

After having spendt (spent) 11 years in a danish (Danish) “folkeskole” I wanted a change of senery (scenery) I was lucky and got a job as a cliner (cleaner) on a boarding school in England just after christmas (Chrismas).

4. THE ORGANS OF SPEECH

To reach correct pronunciation is necessary to know where is each sound created and it is even more important if you want to explain the pronunciation to pupils.

Then we were practicing pronunciation of certain words (pleasure, zoo, fairy, shout, Thursday …) and investigating where is each sound made in our mouth.

07.03. ICT tools

In this lesson we talked about a program which is called SMART. We donwload it for our laptop. This software really useful for teachers. With this program you can write texts, you can draw make graphs or you can put pictures (etc.), what you can use in your lesson. Easy to use.

After this we made own website with our Google account. We learned how can we put pictures or videos or texts to the site.

Our homework for next art lesson was to draw a portrait of person with an expression.
Well and this was the process of trying to do it ....

We had a very good time during working on our portraits. First we had to decide whom to draw and it then we had to make some space for our work, which was fun too (removing the table, proper lighting of desktop... :-D).

When it was done, we could indulge ourselves in drawing and creativity. Nela decided to draw Nadal and she did very well. Vítek made a portrait of Glum (from ´The Lord of The Rings´) with very scary expression. Laura chose to draw Gerald Butler (from the film ´300´) and I was drawing a portrait of happy cheerful woman.

Drawing together was really great, everybody was so focused that we barely talk and just were just listening music and drawing.

Finally our work was done and  hours we had spent working on it were worthful.

I think we have learnt a lot during this. Not only about drawing itself, how to draw nose, eyes, how to put anger or happiness in them…, but also how it is good to work together, even if not on the same thing. Because we could encourage each other to work hard and to work till the work is done, in other words it is much easier to do something when you have friends around.

Respect as the Ethic of the Open Society

The aim of our paper is to conclude the article ´Respect as the Ethic of the Open Society´ by Stefano Gathei where he discusses the possibilities and the dangers of the relativism in the open society. In which the tolerance and respect are the basic idea for it, which are often used in the wrong way and misunderstood.

The biggest problem of our society is the confusion about the meaning of tolerance and respect. So it is necessary to make it clear.

Open society starts with tolerance by allowing differences to exist. To tolerate someone is rather passive, it is just the patient connivance of something we nearly do not care about or cannot accept as equal or worthful.

Moreover, the difference between respect and tolerance is that we do not only allow the difference but we also try to learn from them. According to Notturno “Respect […] means that we take the dissenting opinions of other seriously, and that we regard them as possibly true. It means, in fact, that we treat them as potentially our own – since we want to discover the truth and since we recognize that we may be in error […]” (Notturno, 2000, p.33).

At the same time, being critical is really important in having respect for someone else. We have to be willing to learn from the others. Have an open mind but still be critical enough because every opinion does not have to be the right one.

However, we cannot forget the dangers of an open society. We can only afford to tolerate and respect those who in turn tolerate and respect us.  “Aggressive people not only fail to appreciate respect, they also ignore tolerance, thus putting the minimum condition of civil coexistence at risk.” (Popper, 1945a, p.265).

And that´s why we think it is important to teach children how to be respectful and tolerant, in order to be a global citizen in a multicultural society.

Danish with Jacob (8.3.2011)

Hey everybody,

Another lesson of our Danish course starts again. Hope you are ready for another rich ration of new words, grammar and especially unbelievably difficult pronunciation which makes us so many difficulties.

Firstly few new phrases:

God morgen!                      -good morning

Days of the week are also very important for example if you want to have a date with a Danish boy it would be necessary to know what day your date is or stuff like that :-D :

(= Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Our lesson continued with small exercise, to be more specific a writing. We were supposed to write few sentences about ourselves. So this is my one:

Jeg hedder Misha. Jeg kommer fra Czechia. Jeg studerer I Hradec Králové til Lorer. Jeg er 20 år gammel.

Jeg har en sØster. Min sØster hedder Adéla. Hun er 19 år gammel. Jeg bor min far og mor og sØster on lordag og on sondag. On mandag, tirsdag, onsdag, torsdag og fredag jeg bor I en lejlighed med en pige. Hun er Katka og hun er 22 år gammel. Vi går sometider pår café og på diskotek om tirsdag og torsdag.

I do not know if it is right or not because this is all can do now. ;-)

Food and sports, Thursday 24.2.2011

First lesson was interesting mainly because of the new term. It was „New nordic diet“, which is the way of healthy approach to life. NND is not just about the food to eat but also about whole attitude to the nature and economics. I liked the idea of eating the food which is on stock at this time. For example we better do not eat the strawberries these days, because those would be from far far away from here. And it takes very long way to get here, which is not very economic. Right now we’d eat according to the NND for example the carrots!!

                Another point was of course how to eat in healthy way. Funny moment was when the teacher explained us how to remember to eat six pieces of fruits and vegetables a day...:-) “six”...e...:-D

                Second part of this lesson ran with the danish students together. We mostly planed our healthy meal which we will cook together in small groups of four to six...it is going to be fun!:-)

Whole lesson was very interesting and I we apreciate this, because we are very interested (as P.E. students) in nutritions and food generaly!

03..03. Module 5: ICT tools

Today in this lesson I learned a lot about web. First of all Henrik showed to us how can we use the Wordle and how can we make pictures from a simple text. Pick some word or a text and make your own pictures what you can print it or share it in the internet.


After this we used the google docs. Henrik shared a document with everybody in the class, and we could write anything to our documents. For me it was really new and intresting, because when I'm watched my monitor I recognized my classmate writing messages. Woooow:) This is the real team work, everybody can write something and everybody see it. You just invite a friend and maybe your friend live far away from you, it's okay, you could do the presentation or anything if you want. Oh it's so smart! I love computers! :)

02.03. Art lesson - Colours

Today in the art lesson we talked about the colours and about their meanings.

In the morning we started analyzing our homework. It was a simple portrait and we could saw what we have to practice a little bit more and what we can do really good.


( I recognized, I have to practice a lot! :P )


After this we separeted in 3 groups and we had to compare and analyze some picture.
We talked about colours, expressions and meanings. We choose two amazing picture.















After some break we got a camera and a partner and we took pictures our partner.

Dorte printed it and the fun began.



We had to color our partner's photo whit oil pastel and our knowledge about colours.The final result was quite amazing and I'm really look forward to the next lesson! :)

Storytelling with Jacob (Photo story)

Storytelling ...implies the study of narratives used for a  (well-defined) purpose (and not just the narratives themselves). ex.: corporate storytelling, storytelling as branding, political storytelling, personal s., educational/pedagogical s. ...

The following short film Aqualorius was a source of our next discussion focused on the story of the film, whre is turning point (peripeteia) and discovery/recognition (anagnorisis). So you can try to find it for yourself. Where is the turning point = action? Is it the fight between the boy ant the monster or whre? And where is the discovery point? And what is it? Let think about it after watching the film.

After the discussion followed our own work. Our task was to make our own story consisting from 5 pictures on certain topic, certain word we had chosen. Our word was BEAUTY.
