Aesthetic learning processes, Comparative studies and European stereotypes, Language and identity

European stereotypes with Jette (25.2.2011)
Stereotypes
Stereotypes are deeply set in us and our task is to overcome them. Because they often are not true or just generalized opinions. These stereotypes create prejudices which are making understanding others cultures much more difficult.
So during the lesson we were focusing on stereotypes of our own country and than comparing it with reality which was really enriching and sometimes surprising for everybody.
Let me present a few stereotypes about the Czechs, and I have to say these are mostly true however still generalized.
You can tell I am Czech because....
I do not like politicians.
I know what the dumplings are and I love eating them.
I think the Czech beer is the best beer in the world.
I am friendly and warm-hearted.
I love eating.
I do not trus anyone.

9.2.2011 Comparative studies with Tove
Today, we had these two subjects. Now we all know, that Danish is pretty hard and that is why people here are so smart. They just have to be to even know how to speak..:-D
So:
Jeg hedder Vítek Miler og jeg kommer fra...the Czech republic!

The comparative studies was an interesting subject mainly because we could listen the different opinions and expressions from one another across the countries we are from.

Language and Identity (8.2.2011)
Tasks:
1. Language portraits
2. Chosen picture
3. Color poem

Under kind leardership of Karen or rather cooperation with her we painted our language portraits illustrating our attitude and feelings toward certain languages we speak or know. Next task was to create a color poem containing 5 lines, each with certain number of words. See examples at the end. After that divided into groups we discussed what we´ve made and explained why together with talking about meanings of given colours and their inpact on our feelings.
During the last part of this lesson we went through topics of the Intercultural competence (step a side and have a look at your own culture, tolerance, acceptance, willing to get new impression, open-minded, knowledge, language competence, empathy, knowing the rules of behaviour, adaptability... these were few important thinks of the intercultural competence).
