Development
• * at the end of 19th and beginning of the 20th century
• Its popularity was rising during and mainly after World War I
• Golden age for expressionism: 1910-1920
• 1905 - * Der Brücke (till 1913)
• 1911 - * Der Blaue Reiter (till 1914)
Characteristics
• Usage of pure colours, no focus on perspective, fields of colours usually difined by black lines
• Expressionism was influenced by: children´s drawing, Friedrich Nietzsche, prehistoric paintings, psychological research, neoimpressionism
