Stereotypes
Stereotypes are deeply set in us and our task is to overcome them. Because they often are not true or just generalized opinions. These stereotypes create prejudices which are making understanding others cultures much more difficult.
So during the lesson we were focusing on stereotypes of our own country and than comparing it with reality which was really enriching and sometimes surprising for everybody.
Let me present a few stereotypes about the Czechs, and I have to say these are mostly true however still generalized.
You can tell I am Czech because....
I do not like politicians.
I know what the dumplings are and I love eating them.
I think the Czech beer is the best beer in the world.
I am friendly and warm-hearted.
I love eating.
I do not trus anyone.

Optional subject - English G21 (28.2.2011)
Hey everybody, let me shortly describe you how our lesson of english looked like.
Lesson sarted at 8:15 am with sentence analysis to word level. If I liked it? I gues so, it was fun. Let me bring in some examples:
´For a moment he did not answer.´
A t S V- Am -V
explanation: For a moment = At(=adverbial of time) = prepositional phrase dividing into preposition and preposition complimment (=noun phrase) and so on.
As for signs see following:
V- -V= split predicator
Am= adverbial of manner
At= adverbial time
VP= verb phrase
PreM= premodifier
After analysing of several sentences we were reading poem called Chaos with focus on correct pronunciation which was not so easy. Language evolution followed immediatelly with foculś on development of languages form Proto Germanic branch.
Through this evolution we reached up to English and all its possibilities as Australian English, American English and so on.Besides all the serious things we were also doing something really funny as the Quiz was. Firstly we tried the easyest one suprisingly called Easy Peasy. Then we got to the second level called even funnyer Fair to middlin. There was for instance a question which I really have to mantion, who knows may be it will be usefull some day: "If a Liverpudlian wanted to buy ´a purra kecks´what would he be looking for?" Gues you do not know...the right answer is trousers. However the most funny thing about this question is in my opinion the name of people living in Liverpool - Liverpudlian. Pretty funny sounding name.¨
Phonetics i.a. includes learning about stress, intonation and pitch of speech which we practised a bit, too.
At the end we played few games with number of syllables which we considered as really easy thing, however on really unusuall problem appeared. Few of us was not sure about the number of syllables of the word ´somebody´. I am strongly absolutely persuaded that it has three syllables without any doubt, but few of us claimed that it has only two and suprisingly they foud so in some e-dictionary. So what? Where is the truth? No matter of what that dictionary says, it has three syllables in my opinion. :-D
Finally we were working with pronunciation symbols (phonemes) - phonetic alphabet.
At the end there are some tongue twisters or rather sentences for practising correct pronunciation of some difficult sounds:
"The Smiths wear thin clothes throughout the winter months."
"Mother and Father left Rotherdam last Thursday, wnadered hither and thither, then thumbed a lift to Thirsk."
"Larry rarely allows Lily and Rory a lift in the lorry, but Laura regularly lets Roland lie languidly on her lilo."
"One windy wednesday, wealthy widow Wendy Williams Went to visit Westminster vet Victoria Vince to view her lovely violets."

Prepairing for the Copenhagen trip (11.2.2011)
We split into the three groups and each group chose three places which we´d like to visit in Copenhagen. First group planed for the first afternoon, second for the next afternoon and the third for the last morning. We got part of a map where we had to find our sightseeing tour. It was a little bit difucult for us, because we´ve never been in the capital of Denmark, but we had map and the internet, so we were looking for some interesting places. After a few hours we dealt with our task and finished our timetible for our next three days.
We took up with Copenhagen and we are looking for the trip!

Art with Dorte (23. 2. 2011)
Nela and Vítek drawing their 20minutes selfportraits |
Papers, pencils, crayons, charcoals, eyes and hands...these were our hardware for today art lesson. Enthusiasm and our abilities were the software. Put together it created a number of portraits more or less similar to the model who was drawn.
Everybody was working hard and although our works were only the shadows of what we wanted to create we enjoyed it a lot and had great time down in art classroom.

22.02. Danish
Yesterday we had the second danish lesson. We translated a text about Christine, who is a girl or I can say in danish -> Hun er en pige.
We learned some numbers.
1 - En
2 - To
3 - Tre
4 - Fire
5 - Fem
6 - Seks
7 - Syv
8 - Otte
9 - Ni
10 - Ti
The pronunciation is the biggest trial for me, but I'm really like the challenges and I'm look forward to the next danish lesson.

Piece of Wisdom by Pablo Picasso
"Cubism is no different from any other school of painting /.../
I also often hear the word evolution. Repeatedly I am asked to explain how my paintings evolved. To me there is nop past or future in art. If a work cannot live always in the present it must not be considered at all. The art of the Greeks, of the Egyptians, of the great painters who lived in other times, is not an art of the past; perhaps it is more alive today than it ever was. Art does not evolve by itself, the ideas of people change and with then their mode of expression. /../ Variation does not mean evolution. If an artis varies his mode of expression this only means that he has changed his manner of thinking, and in changing, it might be for the better or ti might be for the worse." (Pablo Picasso)

Copenhagen trip (13.-15.2.2011)
We boarded the bus on Monday at 8:45 with direction to the trainstation and then to Copenhagen. The journey took about three and half hour and Copenhagen greeted us with great portion of wind and cold. After leaving our ludgages at the hostel the adventure could begin.
First day our steps aimed at the Little Mermaid as well as Amalienborg and other sights along water.
Plan for the morning was Experimentarium which was absolutely excelent and I think that everybody felt like a child while walking inside and investigating all the stuff there. After this exciting morning was the museum Erotika in the list but unfortunatelly or may be fortunatelly was already two years closed. Consequently we splitted up to groups according our different plans. My group headed for National Museum and Glyptoteket. To our misfortune both were closed and we ended in McDonald. Finally all of us met at RizRaz, vegerarian restauran, where we had delicious dinner.
Tuesday - Christiania / Danish National Gallery / Carlsberg Factory Tour
The National Gallery of Denmark |
The second part of the stable collection was modern art (Danish and international) where we saw works of Georges Braque, André Derain, Pablo Picasso, Hneri Matisse, Emil Nolde and George Basilitz.
On the top of it there was also temporary exhibition of Pablo Picaso´s prints (Tales from the Labyrinth) and Bob Dylan (The Brazil Series).
Performance,alias art for art. |
Amazed! Who would not be. |
Cornelius Norbertus Gijsbrechts (1610-1675) |
Hans Christian Andersen |
But our trip had to ended. All of us exept Mirna, Fatyma and few other girls, who travelled to Sweden, met in the lounge of the hostel more or less prepared to departure. Mitsue and Narisa left us there and continued in their trip to sunny Italy.
After three hours in train and bus Haderslev greeted us with snow and CPH trip was over. We were full of impressions and ready to undertake another adventrue.

10.02. Practice day
Today morning we went to our practice school. It was the Haderslev Realskolen.
This school was so amazing for me. After we arrived, we spent the time with the principal and he gave us a really delicios breakfast.
After this, my friends visited different classes, for example they went to english, history and danish lesson. I went to another building, where the children can stay after the school. They called SFO. Brit (she was my guide and she is the main person in this building) showed me the building and it was incredible. We can find here painting room, relax room, room for built something new and etc. If somebody want to paint, you can do it. The "teachers" don't tell you what have to do.
In this place you can be creativ and free. :)

9.2.2011 Danish with Jacob and Comparative studies with Tove
Today, we had these two subjects. Now we all know, that Danish is pretty hard and that is why people here are so smart. They just have to be to even know how to speak..:-D
So:
Jeg hedder Vítek Miler og jeg kommer fra...the Czech republic!
The comparative studies was an interesting subject mainly because we could listen the different opinions and expressions from one another across the countries we are from.

Piece of wisdom for today:
If you think that pronounce such a short sentence in Danish like is "hvad hedder du...", is a piece of cake then the cake would be large as olympic stadium with all that ḁ ø ð instead of flour and sugar inside. Alas tongue twisters. :-D
